US Military Struck a 'Large Complex' in Venezuela, Trump Stated Without Offering Details.

Ex-President Trump has stated that American forces hit a "significant plant" in the South American country recently. But, the former president withheld information about the exact purpose or location of the strike, and there has been no additional clarification from his camp.

Vague Comments Made In a Talk Show

"US forces just eliminated – I'm not sure if you heard – they have a major complex, where the vessels depart from. Recently, we knocked that out. So we targeted them very hard," Trump reportedly said to Republican donor and businessman John Catsimatidis on Friday.

Possible Implications of a Verified Attack

If a US military action is verified, it would mark the first attack on Venezuelan soil since the Pentagon initiated a increase of US military presence in the region to interdict narco-trafficking operations that the Trump administration asserts operate under the direction of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.

The original purpose of the force deployment has since morphed into a quarantine aimed at stopping the country's oil exports.

Social Media Video and Official Claims

Trump has for some time indicated that US forces are prepared to widen the operations by hitting targets inside Venezuela, a move that would theoretically require congressional authorization.

Video footage posted on social media on 24 December purportedly showed an explosion reportedly from an industrial area in Zulia state. However, the video or the facility has not been corroborated.

An administration official allegedly told a media outlet that the former president was referring to a narco-trafficking site in his comments.

Response and Current Strategic Posture

The Maduro government has not commented on the incident the former president described. Additionally, there have been no independent reports from within the country about it.

The deployment of American forces in the area – a posture certain officials have referred to as a sea blockade – represents the largest naval operation of his time in office.

Administration officials have refrained from calling the operation as a blockade, but have stated that about 15,000 personnel are stationed across the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf, including a carrier strike group, F-35 aircraft, and law enforcement vessels to uphold current economic sanctions.
